ABOUT Peter Michael Winery WINERY:
In 1982, after a six year search, Sir Peter Michael Winery and Lady Michael purchased 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley. Drawing inspiration from the great wineries of Burgundy and Bordeaux, the family hired like-minded viticulturists and winemakers to help them create terroir-driven wines that would stand the test of time. Peter Michael Winery Winery produces 15 different bottlings: 3 Cabernet blends, 4 Pinot Noirs, 2 blends of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, and 6 Chardonnays. With the exception of our two barrel selection Chardonnays, all of these wines are vineyard specific.
Under the direction of vineyard manager Javier Aviña, the estate vineyards are farmed by hand in a low-impact, sustainable manner, relying heavily on organic techniques that include some biodynamic practices. Cover crops control erosion, feed the soil and provide a habitat for beneficial insects; eliminating the need for chemical pesticides. Tilling, spraying and mowing are accomplished with tractors. All other operations are done entirely by hand. These include: pruning, suckering, shoot positioning, hedging, crop thinning and harvest. All harvesting is done into 20-pound fruit lugs to insure that the fruit arrives at the winery in pristine condition.

"The 2012 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille reveals notes of citrus blossom, Mandarin oranges, tangerine oil, white peach, pineapple and a wet rock-like minerality. This full-bodied, opulent, exotic, stunningly classic Chardonnay should drink well for a decade or more. The good news is that there are 2,105 cases." (December 2014)
"If one considers the total production of all the Peter Michael Winery cuvées (which must be approaching 30,000 cases) and the diversity of their wines, including six cuvées of Chardonnay, four of Pinot Noir, three Bordeaux blends, and lastly Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, Peter Michael Winery Winery may be the best-run winery of its size for world-class quality. There has been a succession of brilliant minds and craftspeople who have gone through these doors, from the early days with Helen Turley and Mark Aubert, to Luc Morlet and now his brother, Nicolas Morlet. Having followed these wines for nearly two decades, they seem to go from strength to strength, and the 2012s and 2013s may be the finest group of wines Peter Michael Winery has ever produced. This is indeed high praise!"

"Captivating, sleek, elegant and graceful, this is rich without weight, offering a mix of ripe pear, fig, apricot and melon flavors, with subtle touches of nutmeg, hazelnut and toasted almond. For all its flavor and depth, this displays wonderful lift on the finish. Drink now through 2020. 2,080 cases made." (July 2014)
